How to Create and Repair PCB Library Components

PCB Libraries can be tough to grasp. In most cases you can find exactly what you need already created and maintained on Library.io. But in some cases you may need something custom like a QTPY symbol and footprint. In this lesson we are going to walk through how to create a custom Symbol, Footprint, and 3D Package for a surface mounted push button. We will explore the automated options for generating a 3D Package, and how to add your own downloaded 3D model to an existing symbol/package in the library.

In our course the provided library was missing 3D packages for the Joystick, QTPY, and the pushbutton. When a library is downloaded often times the 3D Packages are no longer included. In some cases a new design may not have a 3D package at all! If your goal is to design 3D parts off a 3D PCB then it is critical to include these.

This lesson is public preview but the datasets are only available through the course assets for repairing the PCB joystick, QTPY, and push button.

The component we are creating is a push button available from Digikey and information on it can be found here.
